In this section there are some links to professional associations around Australia. Many are linked to specific curriculum / learning areas. Some offer professional development, discussion groups, journals and so on. This is a great way to communicate with like-minded others and to keep up with the latest news in the profession.

Australian Professional Teachers Association (APTA)

The APTA is a federation of state and territory joint councils of teacher professional associations representing over 120 000 teachers. It is the national council representing the peak bodies of the professional teaching associations in each state and territory. It provides a national voice for Australian teachers from all sectors and all levels of education. This work provides value to the community, ensuring ongoing support for the profession while developing quality teaching and leadership.

Professional Learning Institute (DoE)

Graduates in public schools can register for the modules of the Graduate Teacher Professional Learning Program, and where they can learn more about gaining the support of a Graduate Teacher Advocate through our In-Class Coaching Program. Both of these support initiatives comprise the Department’s Graduate Teacher Induction Program, which is aimed at easing the transition from university to first appointment and in enhancing the skills, effectiveness and confidence of new teachers. The program continues through the first two years.
